A former foreman of a construction company, charged by the ICAC, admitted at the West Kowloon Magistracy today (July 12) that he had conspired with others to accept illegal rebates totalling over $43,000 from a man for taking him on as a casual worker and allowing the latter to keep his job with the company.

The ICAC’s anti-graft efforts and unwavering mission to fight corruption were widely supported by local citizens and well recognised by the international community, according to the 2018 ICAC Annual Report released today (July 10).

A buyer of a second-hand harp has been charged by the ICAC today (July 8) with impersonating an officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) and blackmailing the vendor over the provision of a harp tuning key during the sale of the musical instrument.

A former supervisor of a hotel, charged by the ICAC, admitted at the West Kowloon Magistracy today (June 27) that he had conspired with the operators of a frozen meat supplier to accept illegal rebates totalling about $24,000 in relation to the supply of foods to the hotel.

In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesperson confirmed that the ICAC and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) have mounted a joint operation codenamed “Cold Mountain”, commencing on Sunday (June 23). During the operation, the offices of two sponsors, both licensees of the SFC, were jointly searched by the ICAC and the SFC.

ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu is visiting Vancouver, Canada, where he will address the TRACE Bribery and Economic Summit and share Hong Kong’s graft fighting experience with law enforcers around the world.
