An operator of a membership consultancy firm has been charged by the ICAC today (December 19) with conspiracy for members of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) to accept a share of a $680,000 bribe for assisting a person in applying for its racing membership.

The ICAC would enter its 45 years of graft fight in February next year with unwavering determination in the face of continuous changes in the global environment, said Mr Chow Chung-kong, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Corruption.

A former supervisor of an air-conditioning contractor of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), charged by the ICAC, was today (December 18) sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment at the Tuen Mun Magistracy for defrauding the EMSD of salary payments totalling over $170,000 by using false attendance records.

A former welder of an engineering company has been charged by the ICAC today (December 14) with accepting illegal “referral fees” totalling over $48,000 for referring two men to serve as construction workers for the company.

To mark its 45th anniversary, the ICAC will open up its facilities to the public on two consecutive weekends in February and March next year for them to learn first-hand about Hong Kong’s anti-corruption history and the Commission’s latest initiatives.

A former marketing executive of a stationery trading company has been charged by the ICAC with fraud by falsely inducing the company to pay over $8.6 million to another trading firm owned by his family members for products purportedly supplied by an electronics company on the Mainland.

A director of a trading company was brought to the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (December 13) after being charged by the ICAC with offering a bribe to an employee of a bank for unfreezing an account for his company.

The ICAC today (December 12) issued the following statement:

A partner of a car body decoration business, charged by the ICAC, was today (December 10) sentenced to four months’ imprisonment at the Tuen Mun Magistracy after being convicted of conspiracy to offer bribes to an approved car tester (ACT) of a designated car testing centre (DCTC) for passing vehicles with alterations in roadworthiness examinations.

A former kitchen waste collector of a cleaning company and his wife have been charged by the ICAC today (December 7) with conspiracy to defraud the cleaning company of wages totalling over $106,000 by falsely representing that the wife had worked as a then kitchen waste collector for the company.
