A former Head of Department of Surgery of The University of Hong Kong (HKU), charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced at the District Court for misconduct in misusing HKU funds to hire a domestic helper and covering up a subordinate’s embezzlement, as well as false accounting in relation to overseas travelling expenses.

ICAC’s annual survey found that the public showed a strong disdain for corruption and believed a clean society was crucial to Hong Kong’s overall development.

A former director and a former manager of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) and a proprietor of a technology company have been charged by the ICAC for their alleged roles in defrauding ASTRI of goods p ayments totalling over $170,000.

A senior executive of a trading company and a supplier were charged by the ICAC this (Friday) morning for their alleged roles in a conspiracy for the former to accept over HK$930,000 in illegal rebates in relation to the awarding of purchase orders for li ght-emitting diode (LED) products.

Six persons, charged by the ICAC, were today (Tuesday) sentenced to various jail terms up to 57 months at the District Court for their roles in defrauding six banks of loans totalling over $145 million by submitting bogus invoices in relation to the sale and purchase of goods.
