Three former insurance agents, charged by the ICAC, were today (April 15) sentenced at the District Court to jail terms ranging from 25 months to 34 months for conspiracy to defraud an insurance company into paying commissions and bonuses totalling about $950,000 by making false representations about the handling agents of 10 policies.

The Insurance Authority (IA) and the ICAC have conducted their first joint operation targeting corrupt conduct in the unlicensed sale of insurance policies to Mainland customers. The joint operation was conducted pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the ICAC and the IA on October 26, 2023.

A former team manager of the Hong Kong, China’s Water Polo Team (HK Water Polo Team) was charged by the ICAC yesterday (April 9) for allegedly deceiving the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) into releasing government training allowances totalling over $410,000 by falsifying training records of athletes.

A former manager of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), charged by the ICAC, was today (April 10) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for accepting a watch from a co-organiser of an annual world-class equestrian event sponsored by the HKJC, and submitting to the HKJC expenses claim forms which contained false information about meal expenses with its business partners.

ICAC Commissioner Woo Ying-ming today (April 9) issued the following statement:

A former employee of a Chinese restaurant, charged by the ICAC, today (April 9) admitted at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts that she had stolen over $23,000 from the restaurant by revising the relevant records in the computer system of the restaurant after customers had paid the bills.

A casual worker of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) shuttle bus was charged by the ICAC on Wednesday (April 3) for allegedly soliciting a bribe for assisting two tourists to board a shuttle bus departing for Zhuhai from Hong Kong before the Chinese New Year’s Eve last year.

A Service Director of the Hong Kong East Cluster of the Hospital Authority (HA) and a friend of hers were charged by the ICAC today (April 3) with misconduct in public office (MIPO) by amending the specification and divulging confidential information in relation to the procurement of a patient education animation production project worth over $130,000 in favour of the friend.

A Police Constable, charged by the ICAC, was today (April 3) sentenced to 200 hours of community service order at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for having deceived the Hong Kong Police Credit Union (HKPCU) into granting him two loans over $140,000 by making false representations that he had not taken out any loans from banks or financial institutions.

A candidate of the 2020 Legislative Council General Election (LegCo Election) for the New Territories East Geographical Constituency, charged by the ICAC, was today (April 2) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for lodging a false election return to the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) and attempted to defraud the REO of election expenses on facial treatment and hotel room fee totalling $38,700.
