In a law enforcement action taken today (December 10), the ICAC arrested a couple for allegedly inciting others on the Internet to cast invalid vote at the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election (DC Election), contravening section 27A of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) by “inciting another person not to vote, or to cast invalid vote, by activity in public during election period”.

An ICAC spokesperson today (December 10) confirmed that three persons netted by the Police in Central this morning were arrested by the ICAC for allegedly breaching section 27A of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO). The case has been handed over to the ICAC for investigation.

Around 220 ICAC officers were today (December 6) awarded commendations in recognition of their professionalism, outstanding performance and dedicated services in anti-corruption work.

A former security guard of a public housing estate, charged by the ICAC, was today (December 6) sentenced to two months imprisonment at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts for offering “laisees” totalling $4,000 to her supervisor for arranging her to a post she preferred.

A then councillor assistant, charged by the ICAC, admitted at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts today (December 6) that she had accepted bribes for assisting a singing club in various applications for the use of community halls, community centres and facilities (the facilities) in Yuen Long, and deceiving the Home Affairs Department (HAD) into granting fee exemptions to the club.

A man was charged by the ICAC this morning (December 5) for allegedly reposting on his personal social media page an online post which incited others to boycott the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election (DC Election) during the election period. A warrant has been issued by a Magistrate for the arrest of the author of the online post.

A former listed company chairman and two others, charged by the ICAC, were today (December 5) sentenced to jail terms ranging from four years and nine months to seven years and nine months at the High Court after a jury convicted them at a second retrial. It was revealed in a corruption investigation that the trio had conspired together to deceive the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) and the listed company by concealing their interests in an acquisition of dairy farms in New Zealand at NZ$500 million and falsely representing the gross profit of the dairy farms.

A merchant, charged by the ICAC, was today (December 4) sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for impersonating an ICAC officer to request three clinic staff to verify the medical certificates of a man and perversion by uploading five closed circuit television (CCTV) footages in respect of the case onto a social media platform before the trial, alleging that prosecution witnesses had fabricated the footages against him.

An insurance agent-turned-then Immigration Officer was charged by the ICAC earlier (November 30) with an offence under the anti-bribery law for allegedly using documents containing false information to mislead the Immigration Department (ImmD) in an internal investigation that he had not engaged in any outside work and conspiring with three former colleagues in the insurance industry to defraud an insurer of commissions and allowances totalling over $130,000 by making false representation about the handling agent of insurance policies.
