An insurance agent-turned-then Immigration Officer was charged by the ICAC earlier (November 30) with an offence under the anti-bribery law for allegedly using documents containing false information to mislead the Immigration Department (ImmD) in an internal investigation that he had not engaged in any outside work and conspiring with three former colleagues in the insurance industry to defraud an insurer of commissions and allowances totalling over $130,000 by making false representation about the handling agent of insurance policies.

Thirty-one representatives from local and overseas law enforcement agencies who today (December 1) completed a three-week ICAC Leadership and Executive Development (LED) Programme will bring home insights and experience learnt from each other and lay a solid foundation for fostering international collaboration in future.

A former employee of a publishing firm, charged by the ICAC with fraud and offences under the anti-bribery law, was today (December 1) sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for deceiving the firm into making service payments totalling about $380,000 to various contractors by fabricating invoices in relation to the republication of books and the relocation works of the firm. The offences were revealed in the course of a corruption investigation by the Commission.

A former listed company chairman and two others were earlier charged by the ICAC after it was revealed in a corruption investigation that the trio had conspired together to deceive the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) and the listed company by concealing their interests in an acquisition of dairy farms in New Zealand at NZ$500 million and falsely representing the gross profit of the dairy farms. A jury at the High Court today (November 30) convicted the trio of the offences at a second retrial.

A former manager of Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), charged by the ICAC, was today (November 30) sentenced to 53 weeks’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for deceiving the HKDC into engaging two vendors operated by her husband to provide marketing services in five projects sponsored by the government involving a total contract sum of about $400,000 by concealing her conflict of interest.

The District Council Ordinary Election is scheduled to take place on December 10, 2023. To ensure the election be conducted in a fair, just and clean manner, the ICAC, being the government department responsible for enforcing the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO), will seriously pursue any conduct that are in breach of the ordinance and in accordance with the law.

A then foreman of a sub-contractor of the Drainage Services Department (DSD), charged by the ICAC, was today (November 29) sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment after admitting at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts that he had accepted bribes totalling over $45,000 from workers under his supervision.

A property investor and his mother, charged by the ICAC, were today (November 29) convicted at the District Court of conspiracy to defraud for deceiving an investment partner into paying an agency commission of over $750,000 in the purchase of a shopping centre at $168 million revealed in a bribery probe.

A former employee of an engineering company was charged by the ICAC today (November 28) for allegedly deceiving the company into awarding over 1,100 lifts and escalators maintenance works orders worth totalling about $700,000 to a contractor set up by his mother by concealing his conflict of interest in it.

A then Assistant Officer II of the Correctional Services Department (CSD), charged by the ICAC, was today (November 28) sentenced to 200 hours of community service at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for committing misconduct in public office (MIPO) for allowing an inmate to operate his staff handheld device for accessing confidential information to locate another inmate to obtain a cigarette.
