A former principal of a government-aided primary school was charged by the ICAC today (April 3) with misconduct in public office (MIPO) for allegedly concealing from the school his financial interests in a tutorial centre. The former principal and a former director of the tutorial centre further face a charge of conspiracy to commit MIPO for allegedly divulging confidential examination and quiz questions of the school to the tutorial centre before the examinations and quizzes were held.

A defendant earlier charged by the ICAC for impersonation of its officer was laid with five additional charges of perverting the course of public justice by uploading five closed circuit television (CCTV) footages in relation to the case onto a social media platform before the trial, alleging that prosecution witnesses had fabricated the footages against him.

A Police Sergeant, charged by the ICAC, was today (April 1) sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for accepting a bribe of $500,000 for assisting a businessman over an investigation regarding a debt collection matter involving a triad society.

Over 30 senior managerial staff from the banking sector today (March 31) completed the ICAC’s Professional Anti-Corruption Training in Banking Management, the first-ever high-level professional anti-corruption training programme in Hong Kong featuring real corruption case analysis. The programme was also the first pilot project of the International Anti-corruption Academy, Hong Kong, to be set up by the ICAC.

A Workman of the Water Supplies Department (WSD), charged by the ICAC, was today (March 31) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for accepting various unauthorised loans totalling about $570,000 from six colleagues over a span of about one and a half years.

A former assistant general manager of the advertising department of a newspaper company was charged by the ICAC today (March 30) for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes totalling over $120,000 from four subordinates, involving commissions payable to the subordinates for securing event sponsorships. Also charged in the case were two of the subordinates who offered bribes to the assistant general manager.

The District Court today (March 29) ordered to confiscate crime proceeds of $7.8 million from a director of a consultancy firm, who was convicted in an ICAC case for conspiring with a director of an engineering company to defraud a project developer of a hotel development project in relation to the award of a plumbing and drainage installation contract.

A former site team leader of a subcontractor of an expansion project of the United Christian Hospital, charged by the ICAC, was today (March 29) sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for soliciting and accepting illegal rebates totalling $14,200 from three carpenters and bar benders for securing their employment with the subcontractor and being favourably disposed to them at work.

A parent, charged by the ICAC, was today (March 28) sentenced to four months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for offering a bribe of $20,000 in cash to a headmistress of a government primary school in a bid to secure a primary one placement for her son. The incident was revealed in a corruption complaint filed by the school.

A former officer of a property management company was charged by the ICAC today (March 28) with offences under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO) for allegedly using various transaction records tables containing false information to mislead the company when parking rentals totalling about $270,000 of an estate were deposited in the bank account of the estate’s incorporated owners (IO).
