Two former site team leaders of a sub-contractor of the Third Runway Project of the Hong Kong International Airport (Third Runway Project) were charged by the ICAC today (April 19) with accepting illegal rebates totalling about $100,000 from five bar-benders for continuing their employment with the sub-contractor.

A former bank manager, charged by the ICAC, today (April 19) admitted at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts that she had bribed a colleague for referring residential mortgage loan clients of a subsidiary of the bank to a financial intermediary for arranging mortgage refinancing from other banks or financial institutions.

The proprietor of a sub-contractor of the Three-Runway System Project (3RS Project) of the Hong Kong International Airport was laid with three additional corruption charges involving bribes of $2.7 million. The proprietor and a former General Manager of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) were among 10 people earlier charged by the ICAC over sub-contracts of the 3RS Project. The total bribe money involved in the cases had amounted to around $7.7 million, concerning works sub-contracts and materials purchase orders worth over $260 million in total.

Following the receipt of a complaint alleging impersonation of ICAC officers in phone scams, the Commission concluded an investigation and revealed that a woman had visited Hong Kong upon a friend’s request to open bank accounts, which were subsequently used by scammers to collect money from victims by falsely claiming that they were held by ICAC officers. The woman was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts today (April 14).

A former director of a trading company was brought to the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts today (April 14) after being charged by the ICAC yesterday (April 13) with offering a bribe of $1,000 to a bank manager for opening an account for his company. He was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment after entering a guilty plea.

Following the receipt of a complaint alleging impersonation of ICAC officers in phone scams, the Commission concluded an investigation and revealed that a woman received a few hundred RMB for visiting Hong Kong to open a bank account, which was subsequently operated by others to handle payments in phone scams. The woman was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts today (April 13).

A then co-owner of a button manufacturer, charged by the ICAC, was today (April 13) sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment after being convicted at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts of conspiring together with a then insurance agent for deceiving the manufacturer into renewing its products liability insurance policies at overstated annual premiums for six years, involving over $470,000 in total.

A former General Manager of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and the proprietor of a sub-contractor, who were among 10 people charged by the ICAC with multiple counts of bribery and other offences concerning sub-contracts of the Three-Runway System Project (3RS Project) of the Hong Kong International Airport, were laid with an additional corruption charge involving a Mainland residential property. The total bribe money involved in the cases had amounted to around HK$5 million, concerning works sub-contracts and materials purchase orders worth over HK$260 million in total.

An applicant of the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-Secondary Student (FASP) was charged by the ICAC yesterday (April 3) with offering a bribe of $500 to a staff member of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA) in relation to her application.
