One of the two third-tier subcontractors of the construction projects of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital and a private residential estate in Ma On Shan, charged by the ICAC, was today (January 18) sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment at the District Court after being convicted of defrauding second-tier subcontractors of wage payments by overstating daily wages of plumbers.

The ICAC today (January 17) charged a clerk of a handbag manufacturer with accepting bribes totalling over $400,000 from two staff members of a currency exchange company for causing the manufacturer to remit $120 million via the currency exchange company.

A man charged by the ICAC was today (January 17) sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, after admitting at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts that he had displayed on his social media page a post of Yau Man-chun which incited others not to vote at the 2021 Legislative Council General Election (2021 LegCo Election) during the election period.

In the course of a corruption investigation, the ICAC had earlier revealed that a Chief Customs Officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) had defrauded the Government of housing allowance totalling over $160,000 by making false representations about his compliance of the relevant live-in requirement. The defendant admitted his fraudulent acts at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts today (January 17).

The ICAC today (January 16) charged a former cleaning supervisor of a contractor of a private residential estate after it was revealed in the course of a corruption investigation by the Commission that the supervisor had allegedly deceived the contractor into paying wages totalling over $860,000 by falsifying the attendance records of three cleaning workers.

The ICAC today (January 16) charged a former chairman of the incorporated owners (IO) of a private residential building and an employee of his company after it was revealed in the course of a corruption investigation by the Commission that the duo had allegedly conspired together to use false receipts to claim for reimbursement of expenses with the IO.

A Magistrate issued warrants for the arrest of two candidates on the same nomination list of the 2020 Legislative Council General Election (2020 LegCo Election) for the Kowloon West Geographical Constituency, who are wanted by the ICAC for allegedly lodging a false election return to the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) and attempting to defraud the REO of election expenses totalling about $68,000.

A Housing Officer of the Housing Department (HD), charged by the ICAC, was today (January 11) sentenced at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for handling two public housing unit transfer applications by using a document containing a false approval in breach of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO), and forging a memo issued by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) to cover up his delays in handling the applications. The offences were revealed in the course of a corruption investigation by the ICAC.

A man charged by the ICAC was today (January 10) sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, after admitting at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts that he had reposted on his social media page a post of Sunny Cheung Kwan-yang which incited others not to vote at the 2021 Legislative Council General Election (2021 LegCo Election) during the election period.

A candidate of the 2020 Legislative Council General Election (2020 LegCo Election) for the Social Welfare Constituency, charged by the ICAC, today (January 9) admitted at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts that he had lodged a false election return to the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) and attempted to defraud the REO of election expenses totalling $24,000.
