A Police Sergeant has been charged by the ICAC today (October 20) with misconduct in public office (MIPO) for accepting free massage services from a massage parlour for tipping off its manager about impending police operations and pressuring the proprietor of another massage parlour to sell the parlour to a businesswoman at a lower price.

A former security guard of a security company, charged by the ICAC, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at the Shatin Magistracy today (October 19) after admitting that he had defrauded the company and the Housing Department (HD) of wages totalling over $16,640 by falsifying attendance records of his daily patrols against unauthorised dog keeping at public housing estates.

A former property manager of a property management company posted to a private residential estate appeared in the Kowloon City Magistracy today (October 18) after being charged by the ICAC with using false documents to deceive its Incorporated Owners (IO) of over $25,000 for purchasing flowers for Chinese New Year.

A former quantity surveyor of a term contractor of the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD), charged by the ICAC, was today (October 18) sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at the Kowloon City Magistracy for conspiracy to defraud the ArchSD of about $3.9 million worth of works orders in relation to two projects – Kai Tak Development Area and New Central Harbourfront.

A Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and a subcontractor of the Highways Department (HyD) have been charged by the ICAC today (October 16) with respectively accepting and offering a bribe of $50,000 in relation to maintenance works.

The proprietor of an air-condition engineering company, charged by the ICAC, was today (October 12) convicted at the West Kowloon Magistracy of having conspired with a then assistant project manager of another engineering firm for the latter to accept illegal rebates of about $200,000 for recommending air-condition piping works of a commercial complex to his company.

A director-cum-shareholder of a garment company, who was wanted for over nine years, was brought to the Tuen Mun Magistracy today (October 10) after being charged by the ICAC with defrauding a bank of a loan of about $1 million under the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Loan Guarantee Scheme.

A former assistant admissions officer of an international school and her husband, charged by the ICAC, were today (October 9) sentenced to jail terms up to 34 months for defrauding and attempting to defraud three parents of donations totalling $3.6 million in relation to the admission of their children to the school, and laundering the related crime proceeds respectively.

ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu today (October 7) called on members of the public to foster a probity culture in their local communities, stay vigilant at all times and maintain a “zero tolerance” against corruption.

A former employee of a Japanese fast food restaurant chain, charged by the ICAC, was today (September 22) sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at the Tuen Mun Magistracy for accepting $24,000 in bribes from her supervisor, and conspiracy to defraud the restaurant chain of sales revenue.
