Thirty senior management from Chinese enterprises in Hong Kong participated in a two-day “Professional Anti-corruption Training for Corporate Senior Executives” organised by the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (HKIAAC), featuring experience sharing by ICAC officers and Mainland anti-corruption academics who shared a commitment to upholding integrity and compliance in business organisations operating in Hong Kong.

In the ICAC’s operation “Tenacity” mounted last month, multiple individuals were arrested for allegedly bribing members of football clubs for match-fixing to facilitate profiting from illegal gambling. While the relevant corruption investigation is ongoing, the Commission today (June 26) laid holding charges against three of the arrestees with betting with a bookmaker in view of the limit of time for prosecuting the offence concerned.

A former proprietor of an immigration consultancy was charged by the ICAC today (June 25) for allegedly conspiring with others to deceive the Immigration Department (ImmD) into granting the investment entrant application of a client by assisting the latter to make a false representation about his investment of HK$10 million in Hong Kong.

Beginning this month to mid-July, the ICAC will host a total of five visits for members of the 7th District Council (DC). 130 chairmen and DC members from eight districts, including Tai Po, North District, Sha Tin, Islands, Central and Western District, Eastern District, Southern District and Wan Chai visited the ICAC on Thursday (June 20) and today (June 21) respectively to learn first-hand ICAC’s work strategies. A former manager of a telecommunications company, charged by the ICAC, was today (June 20) sentenced to 40 months’ imprisonment at the Court of First Instance of the High Court for deceiving the company into issuing purchase orders worth totalling over HK$30 million and making service payments totalling over HK$16 million to a supplier owned by his mother by concealing his conflict of interest.

Five Health Inspectors of the Centre for Food Safety (the Centre) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), who allegedly abused their power by failing to properly dispose of unused food samples after testing and stole them, were charged by the ICAC yesterday (June 18) for conspiracy to steal those food.

A then assistant manager of a telecommunications company, charged by the ICAC, was today (June 19) sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts after being convicted of obtaining fibre installation service orders worth totalling $180,000 by concealing his interest in a contractor. The defendant was also found guilty of perversion for making false representation about his declaration made to the company during the Commission’s investigation.

A businessman was charged by the ICAC yesterday (June 17) for allegedly laundering crime proceeds totalling over RMB 400 million through a bank account in Hong Kong.

A Housing Officer of the Housing Department (HD), charged by the ICAC, was today (June 18) sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for violating an offence under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO) by using records containing false information to mislead the HD that she had conducted flat inspection visits to verify occupancy status of various flats of a public rental housing estate.
