A prisoner of Stanley Prison, charged by the ICAC for offering a bribe of $500,000 to a public prosecutor of the Department of Justice (DoJ) for the latter’s assistance in interfering with the trial of another criminal case which the prisoner faced, was today (September 19) sentenced at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts to 10 months’ imprisonment.

A former staff of a stationery company, charged by the ICAC earlier, was today (September 19) sentenced at the District Court to three years and eight months’ imprisonment for fraud by falsifying quotations, secretly purchasing plastic pellets at lower prices and reselling them to the stationery company at $7.2 million and pocketed inflated amounts totalling about $1.7 million. The offence was revealed in the course of a corruption investigation.

The ICAC Regional Office (New Territories North West) at G/F, Fu Hing Building, 230 Castle Peak Road - Yuen Long, Yuen Long, New Territories is temporarily closed from 3:30 pm today (September 19) for urgent repairs. The office is expected to reopen next Monday (September 23).

The ICAC Regional Office (New Territories East) at G06-G13, G/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin, New Territories will be temporarily closed for approximately 10 weeks from September 23 for upgrading works. The office is scheduled to reopen in December.

A director of printing companies was charged by the ICAC today (September 16) for allegedly conspiring with a managing director of a fashion accessories company to inflate the amounts of 32 purchase orders and offering the price differences as bribes to the latter in return for business worth over $1.08 million.

The ICAC today (September 13) charged a former principal of a government-aided primary school for allegedly lying to the school that he had not received his salaries for two consecutive months and deceiving the school into double paying him salaries totalling over $150,000. He was also alleged of making false claim that he had been authorised to withdraw school funds and defrauded the school of $120,000 for personal use.

The ICAC today (September 12) charged two formwork team leaders of a public housing estate construction project subcontractor with allegedly accepting and soliciting bribes totalling about $44,000 from two workers as a condition for them to be employed by the subcontractor.

At the opening ceremony of the ninth Belt and Road (B&R) Summit today (September 11), ICAC Commissioner, Mr Woo Ying-ming, exchanged Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with representatives of anti-corruption agencies of Maldives and Indonesia. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee.

The ICAC today (September 11) charged a former Senior Electrical and Mechanical Engineer of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) for allegedly accepting unauthorised loans totalling over $360,000 from four subordinates in breach of the anti-bribery law.
