The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) will conduct a household opinion survey from Wednesday (October 13) to gauge views of the public on the corruption situation in Hong Kong as well as their opinion on the work of the anti-corruption agen cy.

Three persons, who were amongst six arrested by the ICAC in a corruption investigation in relation to loan applications, were today (Thursday) laid with charges of bribery and handling crime proceeds, and brought to Eastern Magistracy for mention.

Two former mortuary attendants of a public hospital, charged by the ICAC, were today (Thursday) sent to jail at Tuen Mun Magistracy for conspiracy to accept over $100,000 in bribes from some funeral service providers for giving preferential treatment to t hem.

A former manager of a jewellery company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Wednesday) sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at the District Court for accepting about HK$270,000 in illegal rebates for placing purchase orders for diamonds with a supplier.

A former assistant manager of TVB Pay Vision Limited (TVB Pay Vision), charged by the ICAC, was today (Monday) sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment at Kwun Tong Magistracy for deceiving TVB Pay Vision into awarding 43 procurement orders worth over $800,000 to two companies controlled by him.

Four persons, charged by the ICAC, were today (Monday) sentenced to various jail terms at the District Court for offering and accepting bribes totalling over $150,000 in relation to the supply of pipeline materials in government projects, and perverting t he course of public justice by claiming that one of the bribes was a loan.

A Police Constable was today (Friday) sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment at the District Court for deceiving over $90,000 from the wife of an arrestee and a police suspect, accepting an unauthorised loan of $3,000, and perverting the course of public justice by persuading the police suspect not to assist the ICAC in a corruption investigation.

A former general manager of an air cargo handling company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Tuesday) sentenced to five months’ imprisonment at the District Court for offering over $120,000 in bribes intended for bidding for a contract.

ICAC Commissioner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming yesterday (Monday) led a study delegation to call on Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) Procurator General Mr Cao Jianming in Beijing to exchange the latest progress of anti-corruption work in both places.

Different jurisdictions and stakeholders the world over should work hand in hand on integrity management and collaborative governance in the battle against corruption, ICAC Commissioner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming told an anti-corruption conference.
