The ICAC has arrested 42 persons in the past two days for alleged corruption in relation to the theft of petrol from vehicles imported via Hong Kong to the Mainland by a vehicle importer, which is the Mainland subsidiary of an European car manufacturer.

A former senior executive of a securities company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced to one year’s imprisonment at the District Court for accepting bribes totalling $1.1 million from a financial adviser of a listed company for introducing a client to purchase the company’s shares.

Corruption reports remained stable as a result of ICAC’s comprehensive anti-graft strategy despite changes in the economic situation, said Mrs Laura Cha, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Corruption (ACOC), today (Tuesday).

A former supervisor of an air freight company and two proprietors of two logistics companies, charged by the ICAC, were today (Tuesday) sent to jail at the District Court for bribery in relation to the awarding of transportation orders.

Eleven former and serving employees of nine restaurants have been charged by the ICAC with accepting illegal rebates totalling over $160,000 from a frozen seafood supplier.

Five persons, including a defeated candidate of the 2009 Shatin District Council (DC) By-election (Tai Wai Constituency), have been charged for conspiring to bribe registered electors and engage in other corrupt and illegal conduct under the Elections (Co rrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) in relation to the said by-election.

A former senior merchandiser responsible for sourcing toys for a US dollar-shop chain was today (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly soliciting over HK$400,000 illegal commissions from two toy suppliers in Hong Kong.

A former chairman of the owners committee (OC) of a commercial and residential building, charged by the ICAC, was today (Wednesday) convicted at Kowloon City Magistracy of soliciting an advantage in relation to the establishment of a mahjong parlour in th e building.

The chairman of a bodybuilding association, who was earlier charged by the ICAC for his alleged role in a bribery scam to assist a suspended athlete in competing in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, was today (Monday) laid with additional bribery and fraud charg es.
