The ICAC has smashed a syndicate and arrested a total of 54 persons in relation to an alleged bribery scam to defraud the government of subsidies for continuing education, estimated at about $3 million.

A supervisor of a supplier and a supervisor of a restaurant appeared in Fanling Magistracy today (Wednesday) after being charged by the ICAC with alleged bribery in relation to meat and poultry supplies to the restaurant.

Four persons, including two former general managers of Centaline Property Agency Limited (Centaline), were today (Tuesday) sentenced to jail terms up to 40 months for their roles in a bribery and fraud scam.

A former senior finance executive of a listed telecommunications company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Saturday) convicted at the District Court of conspiracy to defraud the listed company of over $430,000 in accounting service fees.

The District Court today (Tuesday) issued a warrant for the arrest of the former chairman of a tobacco manufacturer, who was earlier charged by the ICAC and failed to turn up for the resumption of a trial for alleged corruption and fraud in relation to ci garette smuggling activities.

A former Assistant Programme Officer of the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), charged by the ICAC, was today (Friday) sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, at the District Court for deceiving script-writing service fees totalling over $116,000 from the RTHK.

The ICAC has charged a former primary school teacher for allegedly deceiving over $700,000 from parents in relation to their applications for admission to the school.

Two more persons were today (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC in connection with an investigation into suspected bribery in obtaining renovation contracts of residential buildings subsidised by the Building Management Incentive Scheme of the Hong Kong Housi ng Society (HKHS).

A company manager was today (Tuesday) found guilty at the District Court of accepting $800,000 in bribes from a former senior executive of the Centaline Property Agency Limited (Centaline) over the purchase of a $240 millon industrial building.

The ICAC has arrested 29 persons, including a director of an investment company suspected to be the mastermind, for alleged bribery in relation to suspected fraudulent trading of derivative warrants.
