ICAC Commissioner Mr Danny Woo Ying-ming today (September 19) commences his first duty visit after assuming the post, leading an ICAC delegation to visit Singapore where he will meet anti-corruption counterparts in the region to establish post-pandemic anti-graft exchanges, deepen international cooperation in combatting corruption and tell the world the good stories of Hong Kong.

The ICAC’s Regional Office (Kowloon East/Sai Kung), located at Shop No. 9, G/F, Chevalier Commercial Centre, 8 Wang Hoi Road, Kowloon Bay) will be temporarily closed for maintenance works starting from next Wednesday (September 21). The works are expected to last for around one month. The ICAC apologises for any inconvenience caused to the public.

A man, who was charged by the ICAC for managing a divan where heroin and “ice” were sold, was today sentenced to one year’s imprisonment after a Principal Magistrate reviewed his sentence. The defendant was earlier ordered to undergo treatment at a drug addiction treatment centre upon his guilty plea to the offence revealed in the course of a corruption investigation.

A candidate of the 2020 Legislative Council General Election (2020 LegCo Election) for the New Territories West Geographical Constituency, charged by the ICAC, was today (September 9) sentenced to three months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts after admitting that he had lodged a false election return to the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) and attempted to defraud the REO of election expenses totalling over $46,000.

The ICAC earlier charged a director and a former accounting clerk of a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) with conspiring together or with others to defraud four banks of 83 loans totalling over $102 million and banking facilities totalling $31 million. Following the guilty plea of the director, the former accounting clerk was today (September 9) found guilty at the District Court after trial.

A former employee of a licensed money lender and two intermediary proprietors were charged by the ICAC today (September 7) with fraud and laundering crime proceeds revealed in the course of a corruption investigation. The trio had allegedly defrauded the money lender of referral rebates totalling about $320,000 by making false representations that a number of vehicle mortgage loan applications were referred by two intermediaries.

Two former senior staff members of Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) of The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), charged by the ICAC, were today (September 6) convicted at the District Court of conspiracy to solicit an employment from a beauty industry organisation in their official capacities.

The ICAC today (September 5) charged three former employees of a telecommunications company with dishonestly obtaining access to computer systems of the company, and soliciting and accepting bribes for disclosing personal information and data of about 4,700 customers of the company to others.

The ICAC today (September 1) announced the transitional arrangement for the President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and appointed former Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu as Special Adviser, ICAC for a term of one year while continuing to serve as President of the IAACA during the period. The arrangement has the support of the Central People’s Government (CPG) and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Three site team leaders and two construction workers of a sub-contractor of the Third Runway Project of the Hong Kong International Airport (Third Runway Project) were charged by the ICAC with soliciting and accepting illegal rebates totalling over $200,000 from seven scaffolding, carpentry and bar-bending workers for securing their employment with the sub-contractor. Arising from the relevant investigation, the Commission has so far charged a total of 13 persons.
