A former manager of a telecommunications company and his mother were charged by the ICAC today (September 28) with fraud by concealing the duo’s interests in a supplier and laundering crime proceeds totalling over HK$16 million, being payments for goods and services provided by the supplier to the telecommunications company.

Two operators of two former suppliers of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) were charged by the ICAC yesterday (September 26) for allegedly conspiring with a then Adjunct Associate Professor of the university to conceal the latter’s interest in the two suppliers concerning various procurements that involved payments totalling about $4 million over a span of more than seven years.

A former construction worker charged by the ICAC, who was earlier ordered to perform 240 hours of community service for bribery over the employment of a fellow worker and making false representations to another worker over his Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contribution so as to defraud him of part of his wages, was today (September 26) sentenced to four months’ imprisonment after a Magistrate reviewed his sentence.

The ICAC today (September 23) charged a Chief Customs Officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) and his mother for allegedly defrauding the Government of housing allowance totalling over $160,000 by making false representations about the compliance of the relevant live-in requirement.

A mortgage loan applicant was charged by the ICAC today (September 23) with deceiving two licensed money lenders into granting her two mortgage loans totalling $5.7 million by fraudulent means.

A candidate of the 2020 Legislative Council General Election (2020 LegCo Election) for the Social Welfare Constituency was charged by the ICAC today (September 22) with lodging a false election return to the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) and attempted fraud over election expense.

A buyer of a new property was charged by the ICAC yesterday (September 20) for allegedly offering a gift to an estate agent in a bid to obtain a higher cash rebate from the estate agency concerned over her purchase of a residential flat at over $6.5 million.

A former director of an optical retailer, charged by the ICAC, was today (September 21) sentenced to five months’ imprisonment at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts after admitting that he had falsified invoices totalling about $380,000 in relation to procurement of glasses and used them to deceive the retailer.

A prisoner of Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre (Siu Lam), who was sentenced to life imprisonment, was charged by the ICAC today (September 20) with offering a bribe of $300,000 to a Principal Officer of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) in charge of the ward the inmate was incarcerated.

A former operator of one-woman brothels, charged by the ICAC, was today (September 20) sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for conspiracy to pervert public justice by surrendering prostitutes for arrest in police raids under a tip-off arrangement and failing to surrender to custody.
