Climate and Weather
Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical. The weather in May is hot and humid with occasional showers. The average temperature is about 25°C - 29°C and the average relative humidity is 81%. (For more information, please visit the Hong Kong Observatory website)
Electricity and Voltage
The standard electrical voltage in Hong Kong is 220 volts AC, 50Hz and the majority of electrical outlets in Hong Kong take a 3-rectangular-pin plug. Most hotel bathrooms also have outlets for 100 volts. You can buy a transformer from the convenience store or retail shops in Hong Kong if needed.
Transportation
Hong Kong has an advanced transport system that includes the Mass Transit Railway (MTR), buses, trams, ferries and taxis. These modes of transport are widely available through the city and provide extensive coverage. Most public transports accept credit card or Octopus card payment, while taxis primarily accept cash.
An Octopus card, either digital or physical, is a convenient payment tool in Hong Kong. It allows you to make cashless transactions for all major public transportations, dining, entertainment, shopping and more. There are two types of Octopus for visitors:
- Mobile Octopus: For Apple or Huawei mobile phone users
- Tourist Octopus: Physical travel card with iconic Hong Kong design
