The ICAC has over the years run 33 Chief Investigators’ Command Courses (CICCs) to provide leadership and management training to about 700 graft-busters and law enforcers from around the world.

It is my pleasure to note the Legislative Council’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC)’s recognition of ICAC’s contribution in the last 40 years in making Hong Kong a world-renowned corruption-free society. In the past few months, the PAC had conducted eight public hearings on the Report No.60 of the Director of Audit, pertaining to “preventive education and enlisting public support against corruption”. In the course of the hearing, the ICAC had rendered full assistance to facilitate the PAC’s work under the circumstances that it did not affect the relevant criminal investigation. We have furnished detailed information to the PAC and attended the hearings to answer questions raised by legislators.

A brother and his sister, charged by the ICAC, were today (Monday) sentenced to four months and 10 months in jail respectively at the Eastern Magistracy for their respective roles in offering a bribe of over $46,000 to get the correct answers of a game show of now TV and defrauding the PCCW Media Limited (PCCW Media), which operated now TV, of about $350,000 in cash prizes.

A then chairman of a mutual aid committee (MAC) at a public housing estate, charged by the ICAC, was today (Monday) sentenced at the Kwun Tong Magistracy for accepting 10 packs of cigarettes being a bribe from a security guard in relation to the latter’s job posting.

Providing a secure environment for individuals and organisations and a level playing field for businesses, the rule of law was vital to the success of anti corruption work in Hong Kong, said the ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu.

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Friday, HK time) departed for Panama City after concluding his visit in the United States (US) where fruitful exchanges on anti-corruption issues were held with the country’s law enforcement agencies, justice department and government bodies as well as international organisations based in the US.

The ICAC has arrested 14 persons for their alleged involvement in a scam to defraud the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) of funding and retraining allowances totalling over $280,000 with false student enrolment and attendance records.

The chairman of a listed company, who was earlier charged by the ICAC with conspiracy to defraud in relation to the acquisition of natural gas and oil fields in the United States of America, was today (Tuesday) laid with an additional charge when he appeared at the Eastern Magistracy.

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Sunday) departed for the Republic of Panama via the United States (US) to attend the 7th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).

A former secretary of the incorporated owners (IO) of a public housing estate, charged by the ICAC, was today (Friday) convicted at the Eastern Magistracy of soliciting a bribe of $3,000 from a contractor in relation to the award of maintenance orders of the estate.
