The proprietor of a construction and engineering company and his subcontractor, charged by the ICAC, were today (Friday) sentenced at Tsuen Wan Magistracy for bribery in relation to renovation works at a private residential building in Kwai Chung.

The managing director of a fast food restaurant, charged by the ICAC, was today (Wednesday) convicted at the District Court of taking about $2.5 million in illegal kickbacks from a corn supplier and asking the supplier to lie to investigators.

In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesman today (Monday) said that in light of the reported leakage of information relating to a bank inquiry made by the ICAC, the Commission has conducted an internal investigation into the circumstances and revie wed the relevant information technology (IT) system.

In response to press enquiries, the ICAC today (Friday) confirmed that it had arrested 20 persons, including five officers of the Highways Department (HyD), for alleged corruption over the tendering and administration of HyD works contracts.

The ICAC today (Thursday) set up Hong Kong’s first anti corruption research centre which integrates theoretical research with the results of empirical investigations.

In response to media enquiries, the ICAC today (Wednesday) confirmed that six persons, including a candidate in the 2009 Shatin District Council (DC) By-election (Tai Wai Constituency), were arrested for alleged corrupt and illegal conduct under the Elec tions (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance.

A member of the Kwai Tsing District Council (KTDC), charged by the ICAC, was today (Saturday) given a suspended sentence at Tsuen Wan Magistracy for making false claims of reimbursement of expenses totalling over $69,000 from KTDC in relation to various a ctivities organised by eight non-profit making organisations and a mutual aid committee.

A member of the incorporated owners (IO) of a residential and commercial complex, charged by the ICAC, today (Friday) admitted at Kwun Tong Magistracy that he and another IO member had accepted a $40,000 bribe in relation to a renovation project at the co mplex.

A former marketing officer of a bank, who was wanted by the ICAC for bribery and fraud charges, was extradited from Canada to Hong Kong early this (Thursday) morning after fighting extradition for more than three years.

A retired Detective Senior Police Constable, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced to four years in jail at the District Court for offences of perversion, forgery, deception, and making a false report to the ICAC.
