A director of an interior design company has been charged by the ICAC with offering $100,000 in bribes to an employee of a property management company in relation to unauthorised building works at Marina Cove, a private residential estate in Sai Kung.

A magistrate today (Friday) sentenced a mortuary worker of the Department of Health to four months’ imprisonment at Shatin Magistracy after reviewing the original penalty meted out to the defendant for his corruption offences.

A construction subcontractor, charged by the ICAC, was today (Friday) sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Tsuen Wan Magistracy for offering 15 boxes of moon-cakes to police officers, while having dealings with the latter.

A recruitment agent, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) jailed for four and a half months at Eastern Magistracy for his role in a conspiracy with a former manager of a food manufacturing company to accept $100,000 in illegal commissions in relation to the recruitment of part-time promoters.

A retired Detective Senior Police Constable, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) convicted at the District Court of offences of perversion, forgery, deception, and making a false report to the ICAC.

Two former managers of a subsidiary of a paper merchant, charged by the ICAC, were today (Monday) each sentenced to 22 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for accepting $900,000 in bribes for awarding transportation orders to a transportation company.

Three persons have been charged by the ICAC for their alleged involvement in bribery and fraud in relation to trading of derivative warrants.

Two former senior executives of a publicly listed telecommunications company, charged by the ICAC, were today (Tuesday) each sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at the District Court for conspiracy to defraud the company and its subsidiaries of $12 million in consultancy fees through bogus agreements.

The former chairman of a tobacco manufacturer, charged by the ICAC, was today (Tuesday) sentenced to a jail term of four years and six months at the District Court for bribery and fraud in relation to cigarette smuggling activities.

Amid the global financial crisis, anti-corruption agencies of Hong Kong and Guangdong should step up cooperation to ensure a clean business environment in the region in view of increased social and economic ties between the two places, said ICAC Commissio ner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming.
