The ICAC Commissioner Mr Timothy Tong today (Thursday) issued the following statement:

The ICAC has charged four persons in three separate cases for allegedly committing voting offences in the 2007 Village Representative Election (Resident Representative) for Lung Yeuk Tau in Fanling.

Five chefs of four restaurants serving Western food and a director of a frozen food company have been charged by the ICAC for allegedly conspiring to accept and accepting illegal rebates in relation to the provision of frozen food supplies to the restaura nts.

The ICAC has charged 11 registered voters of the 2007 Village Representative (VR) Election in nine separate cases for allegedly committing voting offences in the VR elections for Wo Liu Hang in Shatin and Ho Pui Tsuen in Yuen Long.

Five registered voters of the 2007 Village Representative (VR) Election were today (Tuesday) charged by the ICAC in two separate cases for allegedly committing voting offences in the VR election for Ho Pui Tsuen in Yuen Long.

The ICAC will target the younger generation in its new advertising campaign, with TV and radio commercials urging young people to “be smart and report corruption”.

Four former employees of a hotel, charged by the ICAC, were today (Thursday) each sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Kowloon City Magistracy for conspiracy to accept advantages for referring the hotel’s guests to patronise a tailor shop.

Hong Kong’s anti-corruption system exemplifies the United Nations model in effectively curbing corruption based on professionalism, comprehensive laws and a holistic strategy, said the ICAC Commissioner, Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming.

The ICAC has arrested 19 persons, including eight serving and former purchasing staff and chefs of four Japanese restaurants and two supermarket sushi stalls, for allegedly accepting illegal rebates from suppliers for placing orders of fish, shellfish, fr ozen meat, and other raw material for Japanese food.

A former teacher of a primary school, charged by the ICAC, was today (Tuesday) sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for deceiving over $700,000 from a number of parents in relation to applications for admission of their children to the school.
