A former managing director of a manufacturer of herbal tea products, charged by the ICAC, was today (Monday) found guilty at the District Court of deceiving a Letter of Credit (L/C) facility and six hire-purchase loans totalling over $1.4 million with fal se invoices.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is prepared to walk an extra mile in cooperating with other jurisdictions to bring the corrupt to justice, Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming, Commissioner of the ICAC, told an international conference for top pr osecutors in Manila, the Philippines.

Four persons, including an Honorary Voting Member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), have been charged by the ICAC in four separate cases for alleged bribery and deception respectively in relation to applications for the membership of the HKJC.

ICAC Commissioner Mr Timothy Tong Hin-ming today (Saturday) issued the following statement:

Two chefs of two Western restaurants, charged by the ICAC, were each sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at Eastern Magistracy today (Friday) for accepting bribes from a frozen food supplier as rewards for placing food orders with the latter.

A registered voter of the 2007 Village Representative (VR) Election, charged by the ICAC, was today (Friday) sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at Shatin Magistracy for committing a voting offence in the VR election for Wo Liu Hang in Shatin.

Two persons have been charged in separate cases by the ICAC for allegedly committing voting offences in the 2007 Village Representative Election (Resident Representative) for Pak Nai Tsuen in Yuen Long.

Six more chefs of five restaurants and a recreation club have been charged by the ICAC in five separate cases for alleged bribery in relation to the provision of frozen food supplies, following the prosecution of six others late last month.

The ICAC has charged a former project manager of the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) for alleged fraud in relation to the awarding of construction, repair and renovation works.
