A District Court judge today (October 25) issued a warrant for the arrest of a merchant, who was earlier charged by the ICAC with a then chairman and a then substantial shareholder of a listed company and another person with conspiracy to defraud by concealing a “backdoor listing” agreement and dealing with crime proceeds of $42 million.

A director of a garment accessories trading company and a former purchaser of a garment manufacturer, charged by the ICAC, were respectively sentenced to 22 and 17 months’ imprisonment at the District Court today (October 24) for offering and accepting bribes totalling about $8.4 million in relation to purchase orders worth over $36 million placed by two garment manufacturers in seven years.

A director and a former accounting clerk of a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), charged by the ICAC, were today (October 24) respectively sentenced to over 33 and 36 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for conspiracy to defraud four banks of 83 loans totalling over $102 million and banking facilities totalling $31 million revealed in the course of a corruption investigation.

A merchant was charged by the ICAC yesterday (October 19) with impersonating an ICAC officer to request three clinic staff to verify medical certificates of a man. The girlfriend of the defendant was earlier involved in a civil claim filed by the employer of the man over a car accident.

A former site team leader of a sub-contractor of the Third Runway Project of the Hong Kong International Airport (Third Runway Project), charged by the ICAC, today (October 19) admitted at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts that he had solicited and accepted illegal rebates totalling over $180,000 from six scaffolders. The defendant was among 13 charged by the ICAC since late last year with bribery for assisting construction workers to secure employment with the sub-contractor.

A former Senior Building Services Engineer of the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) was charged by the ICAC today (October 19) with offences under the anti-bribery law for allegedly using application documents containing false statements that he did not have a financial interest in a leased property to deceitfully obtain Government housing allowance totalling over $940,000.

A then Assistant Officer I of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) was charged by the ICAC today (October 18) for allegedly supplying snacks to eight prisoners without authorisation revealed in the course of a corruption investigation.

Seventeen persons were charged by the ICAC in the past two days (October 11 and 12) with conspiracy to defraud, revealed in the course of a corruption investigation. They allegedly took part in a dummy insurance agents scam to defraud two insurers of commission totalling over $43 million by making false representations that they had handled about 480 insurance policies. Some of them were also charged with money laundering for allegedly dealing with the commissions.

Two former senior staff members of Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) of The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), charged by the ICAC, were respectively sentenced to 15 and 10 months’ imprisonment at the District Court today (October 13) for conspiracy to solicit an employment from a beauty industry organisation in their official capacities.
