Five among seven persons, charged by the ICAC with conspiracy to defraud for obtaining vaccination records by making false representations of having received COVID-19 vaccine doses at a Community Vaccination Centre (CVC), admitted at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts today (July 14) their involvements in the scam.

A former legal clerk, charged by the ICAC with defrauding two licensed money lenders of mortgage loans totalling $20 million and laundering part of the sums, had his jail term increased from 47 months to 75 months after the Court of Appeal (CA) review his sentence today (July 14).

Three persons, including two insurance agents, were charged by the ICAC today (July 12) with conspiracy to defraud an insurer of commissions totalling about $220,000 by making false representations that a number of insurance policies were handled by the two agents.

The ICAC was informed yesterday (July 10) evening by a member of the public who reportedly attended the Commission’s Open Day yesterday morning and was later tested positive for COVID-19 using Rapid Antigen Test. The case has yet to be confirmed by the Department of Health.

The ICAC today (July 9) held an Open Day for members of the public to learn first-hand Hong Kong’s anti-corruption journey and the latest graft-fighting initiatives.

A man who was charged by the ICAC, was today (July 8) sentenced at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts for managing a divan where heroin and “ice” were sold to drug users. The illegal activities were revealed in the course of a corruption investigation.

The four independent advisory committees, responsible for overseeing different aspects of the work of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), affirmed the Commission’s work in the previous year in relation to law enforcement, corruption prevention, education and international cooperation. They also commended ICAC officers for their dedication to the anti-corruption cause and upholding Hong Kong’s clean and competitive economy.

The ICAC today (July 5) charged two dummy insurance agents in separate cases with laundering crime proceeds. The duo had allegedly conspired with others to make false representations that several insurance policies were handled by them and had transferred most of the commissions and bonuses, totalling over $1.2 million, to those who recruited them to take part in the scam.

An applicant of the Community Care Fund (CCF), charged by the ICAC, was today (July 5) convicted at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts of bribing staff members of the CCF Secretariat in relation to his application for an allowance.

A former marketing manager of a green wall installation company was charged by the ICAC yesterday (June 29) with fraud by making false representations to its clients that the company was renamed so as to divert its business totalling over $160,000 to a company related to her.
