An operator of a vice establishment, charged by the ICAC, was today (Wednesday) convicted at Kowloon City Magistracy of offering a monthly bribe payment of $30,000 to a police officer for avoiding enforcement action.

A former purchasing manager of a German company was today (Monday) charged by the ICAC for alleged bribery in relation to purchase orders of making moulds for manufacturing automobile parts.

The following statement is issued by the Independent Commission Against Corruption today (July 23) :

The recent resignation of the Director of Investigation of the ICAC's Operations Department, Mr Gilbert CHAN Tak-shing, has raised public concern. In fact, due to privacy concerns, it is not appropriate to publicly discuss personnel matters. However, Mr CHAN, who is now outside Hong Kong, has submitted a letter to the Panel on Security to briefly explain his decision to resign.

The following are remarks by ICAC Commissioner, Raymond Wong Hung-chiu to the press after the Panel on Security of Legislative Council today (July 22):

A couple, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced at District Court for offering about HK$1 million in bribes to a former bank officer for defrauding the bank of loans totalling US$17 million with standby Letters of Credit (L/Cs).

A former consultant of an architectural consultancy firm, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced to nine months' imprisonment at District Court for accepting a $500,000 bribe from a proprietor of an engineering company in relation to a renova tion project at a private residential building in the Peak.

A couple, charged by the ICAC, was today (Wednesday) convicted at District Court of offering about HK$1 million in bribes to a former bank officer for defrauding the bank of loans totalling US$17 million with standby Letters of Credit (L/Cs).

A former property manager of a property consultancy services company and two former operators of two engineering firms, charged by the ICAC for alleged fraud in relation to maintenance work contracts amounting to about $200,000 at a residential estate in Sheung Shui, appeared at Kowloon City Magistracy today (Wednesday).

ICAC Commissioner, Raymond Wong Hung-chiu, today (July 15) says that Director of Investigation (Government Sector) of the Operations Department, Gilbert Chan Tak-shing, resigned due to personal reasons and commends him for his distinguished performance in carrying out anti-corruption duties steadfastly during his long service with the Commission.
