A businessman was today (Monday) sentenced to seven months' imprisonment at Eastern Magistracy for conspiring to deceive $700,000 from an insurance company by making a bogus death claim in relation to a Mainland woman with whom he was entirely unrelated.

A sales manager of an architect firm and an employee of a property management company were caught red-handed by the ICAC on Monday (November 22) after a transaction of a suspected corrupt payment of $10,000 took place.

A former Associate Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was today (Thursday) convicted at District Court for deceiving $1.5 million housing allowance from the University.

The chairman of publicly listed Wealthmark International (Holdings) Ltd. (Wealthmark), who was among 10 persons arrested by the ICAC in an operation commencing Monday, has been charged today (Wednesday) for allegedly misappropriating company funds totalli ng $20.8 million.

A member of the Sham Shui Po District Council (SDC) and three other persons have been charged by the ICAC for allegedly making false claims of reimbursement of expenses totalling about $230,000 from SDC, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD ) and the Social Welfare Department (SWD) in relation to various activities organised by two non-profit making residents organisations.

Two directors and a foreman of a road maintenance company, charged by the ICAC, were today (Wednesday) sentenced to jail terms of up to three years at District Court for conspiring to defraud the Highways Department (HyD) in relation to road resurfacing w orks.

An officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) was today (Tuesday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly accepting $82,000 in bribes for retrieving restricted information on the status of six companies which had been subjects of C&E investigation, and providing information on the deployment of officers of the Textiles Tactical Strike Units (TTSUs) of C&E.

The ICAC has charged six persons for an alleged fraud to inflate the number of electronic transactions with government departments on a website to help its operator fulfill a requirement of a contract awarded by the then Information Technology and Broadca sting Branch (ITBB) (now known as the Communications and Technology Branch (CTB)) under the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau.

Six persons, including a Police Sergeant earlier arrested by the ICAC for alleged corruption in providing information on law enforcement action against vice establishments in Mongkok, have been charged in separate cases.
