ICAC and District Council members join hands to uphold integrity
2024-6-21
Beginning this month to mid-July, the ICAC will host a total of five visits for members of the 7th District Council (DC). 130 chairmen and DC members from eight districts, including Tai Po, North District, Sha Tin, Islands, Central and Western District, Eastern District, Southern District and Wan Chai visited the ICAC on Thursday (June 20) and today (June 21) respectively to learn first-hand ICAC’s work strategies. The visits were set to cement the partnership between DC and ICAC in upholding clean district governance.
Director of Community Relations Corinna Wong Kit-mui noted that following the swearing-in of the 7th DC in January this year, the ICAC had attended DC meetings of all 18 districts across the territory to brief members on the gist of anti-corruption legislations, areas of concern in corruption prevention as well as the Commission’s work plan in the coming year. By visiting the ICAC Headquarters and exchanging views with ICAC directorates, DC members would understand the latest Commission’s anti-graft strategies from a broader perspective. Wong hoped members would partner with the ICAC and continue to support the work of the Commission.
During their visits, ICAC officers briefed DC members the overall probity situation in Hong Kong and the tripartite partnership formed by the ICAC, the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities and the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (HKIAAC) for promoting the culture of integrity overseas. ICAC officers also shared with them the Commission’s efforts in preventive and education fronts through an “Ethics for All” approach, which included enhancing integrity management in both public and private organisations, cultivating teenagers to become integrity leaders who would uphold the rule of law, as well as ICAC’s role in safeguarding national security. Meanwhile, DC members gave updates on the latest situation in their respective communities following the full implementation of improving governance at the district level. Such information would allow the ICAC to map out its community education and district work plans more effectively.
DC members also visited various facilities in the ICAC Headquarters including the ICAC Exhibition Hall, the Video Interview Room, the Identification Parade Suite, the Detention Centre, firearms display, HKIAAC, as well as education facilities in Community Relations Department.
