ICAC statement

2020-3-31

Commissioner of the ICAC, Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu, today (March 31) issued the following statement:

“We learnt with great sadness that former ICAC Commissioner, Mr Bertrand de Speville has passed away. On behalf of all ICAC colleagues, I would like to express our deepest condolences to his family.

“Mr de Speville led the ICAC during a challenging time when corruption cases in Hong Kong started to become increasingly complicated and transnational. Under his leadership between 1993 and 1996, the ICAC successfully detected a number of sophisticated and cross-border private sector cases involving corruption.

“With his support, the ICAC also forged closer ties with the Mainland’s anti-corruption authorities prior to the reunification in 1997.

Since stepping down as ICAC Commissioner, Mr de Speville had advised government of different countries and international organisations on anti-corruption policies and initiatives.

“Colleagues who had worked with Mr de Speville will fondly remember him as a determined leader with vision and a fine gentleman.”
